FISCAL DISCIPLINE
The solution to America’s current financial crisis is simple. America needs to trade her Quadruple Platinum Credit Card for a Debit Card. Utah is no exception in this spending crisis. For every $1 that Utah sends to the Federal Government, Utah receives $1.08 in return. In other words Utah gets more money out of the Fed than we pay in. Part of the reason this occurs is because of “Payments in Lieu of Taxes” (or PILT). PILT are Federal payments to local governments that help offset losses in property taxes due to nontaxable Federal lands within their boundaries. Unfortunately Utah is strapped with the burden of significant Federal Ownership of Utah Lands. The first step to fiscal independence is the recovery of our public lands.
